Invitation
Developed by industry experts in their field, IGMA is pleased to present the Performance and Innovations educational seminar for the benefit of continuing education for the industry. This day and a half seminar is topic specific and offers participants a “Do’s and Don’ts” best practices approach for the manufacture of quality insulating glass units.  IGMA, a combined U.S and Canadian organization, is recognized as the worlds leading authority on the engineering and manufacture of insulating glass. Our international certification and testing programs are backed by over 30 years of industry expertise.

What is an insulating glass failure? Is it…

  • Fogged Unit:
    • Sealant adhesive loss;
    • No sealant adhesive loss;
  • Cracked Glass;
  • Damaged Coating;
  • Displaced Spacer;
  • Any Other Impairment:
    • Contaminants
    • Argon Loss
    • Non-flat Glass (visual or thermal issue)

Find out what causes these occurrences and how to prevent them. Learn to determine whether failures are due to issues with manufacturing, glazing or installation.

IGMA Changes Dates for IG Fabricator Workshop
The Insulating Glass Manufacturers Alliance (IGMA) rescheduled its IG Fabricator Workshop event, which will now take place May 3-5 in Plano, Texas, at the Intertek (ATI) Testing Facilities. "There are two major trends affecting the fenestration industry today," says Margaret Webb, IGMA's executive director. "The first trend is major turnover in plant personnel as baby boomers retire, taking with them a wealth of knowledge and experience in the fabrication of insulating glass just when that expertise is needed the most. Secondly, this is going on at a time when architects and engineers are upping the game on building envelope design with unusual aesthetics, improved thermal performance. This workshop is taught by industry experts who know their stuff and are willing to share their expertise and knowledge with Gen X, Gen Y and Millennials, ensuring that this expertise gets passed on."

PCRs, Durability Testing Among Discussions at IGMA
The members of the Insulating Glass Manufacturers Alliance (IGMA) were hard at work last week, hashing out technical matters and pushing forward with educational and certification efforts. The Alliance also covered emerging technologies and innovations, which rounded out the conference at the Hyatt Regency Indian Wells in Indian Wells, Calif. The Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) task group, part of the Emerging Technology and Innovation Committee, which met last Thursday, recently developed a business-to-business Product Category Rule (PCR). This was published on the Institute for Environmental Research and Education (IERE) website last September. The possibility of a business-to-consumer version for residential is being explored.

IGMA Addresses Technical Matters
The Insulating Glass Manufacturers Alliance (IGMA) held a technical services committee meeting Wednesday during its winter conference in Indian Wells, Calif. The meeting was held in conjunction with the Glass Association of North America's (GANA) insulating division. IGMA and GANA have formed a joint committee to address load resistance and dead load support for insulating glass units with unsupported edge conditions, something committee member Tracy Rogers said will be a "long process."
