IGMA Changes Dates for IG Fabricator Workshop
The Insulating Glass Manufacturers Alliance (IGMA) rescheduled its IG Fabricator Workshop event, which will now take place May 3-5 in Plano, Texas, at the Intertek (ATI) Testing Facilities. "There are two major trends affecting the fenestration industry today," says Margaret Webb, IGMA's executive director. "The first trend is major turnover in plant personnel as baby boomers retire, taking with them a wealth of knowledge and experience in the fabrication of insulating glass just when that expertise is needed the most. Secondly, this is going on at a time when architects and engineers are upping the game on building envelope design with unusual aesthetics, improved thermal performance. This workshop is taught by industry experts who know their stuff and are willing to share their expertise and knowledge with Gen X, Gen Y and Millennials, ensuring that this expertise gets passed on."

This was published on the Institute for Environmental Research and Education (IERE) website last September. The possibility of a business-to-consumer version for residential is being explored.

The meeting was held in conjunction with the Glass Association of North America's (GANA) insulating division. IGMA and GANA have formed a joint committee to address load resistance and dead load support for insulating glass units with unsupported edge conditions, something committee member Tracy Rogers said will be a "long process."
